Moscow Mules are an incredibly refreshing, delicious drink. And, they are simple to make.
If you’ve ever made one at home, though, you may feel like there’s a little something missing compared to your favorite bar’s recipe.
It may just be a Ginger Simple Syrup. And now you have the secret.
Our favorite recipe includes all the traditional ingredients plus Lush Moscow Mule Simple Syrup (so easy to make!) to add a bit more punch with organic ginger and lime.
If you’re having a Spring Party or just your own happy hour, you can’t go wrong with this Moscow Mule Recipe.
Favorite Moscow Mule Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 oz. Vodka
- 1 Tbsp fresh lime juice
- 1 tsp Lush Moscow Mule Simple Syrup (recipe below)
- 3-4 oz. Ginger Beer or Ginger Ale (you’ll want a non-alcoholic one…these taste better in a Mule. Here’s our favorite brand)
Instructions:
In a cocktail shaker (or even a jar with a lid), pour in vodka, lime juice, and simple syrup. Add ice. Shake until chilled.
Strain and pour into serving glass. Fill half-way up with ice. Add Ginger Beer.
Add a lime wedge for garnish and serve.
Lush Moscow Mule Simple Syrup
Heat 1.25 cups water to a boil. Add Lush Moscow Mule Mix. Reduce Heat to simmer. Stir and simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to cool.
Use this Moscow Mule Simple Syrup in cocktails like our Favorite Moscow Mule recipe, homemade sodas, over yogurt or ice-cream, as a dessert topping, or in tea. Delish!
Lush Frozen Wine Mule
Of course, it’s never been easier to serve a wine mule to a crowd! Simple mix one bottle crisp white wine, 1 bottle (750 mL) water, 8 oz. vodka, and Lush Moscow Mule Mix in a large freezer bag or pitcher. Place in freezer for 6-8 hours. Remove, stir, and serve this delicious Frozen Wine Mule! Click here & Buy your Lush Moscow Mule Mix today…
What in Lush Moscow Mule Mix?
Unlike most cocktail mixers, Lush uses organic, all-natural, highest-quality ingredients. We’re more than happy to tell you what each is and where each is sourced (we care about origin!). What’s more, we’ll tell what’s not in them. No high-fructose corn syrup, no dyes or colorings, no chemical preservatives, no nothing typical.
In fact, each bag of Lush Moscow Mule contains organic, thick, beautiful, spicy ginger, and real crystalized limes. Give it a try – you’ll taste the difference!

Lush Strawberry Basil Simple Syrup for an
Amazing Vodka Daiquiri
Last week, we posted a recipe and giveaway featuring Lush Strawberry Basil Lemonade. It makes a delicious frozen wine cocktail – D.E.L.I.C.I.O.U.S. It also makes an amazing organic simple syrup.
What in the world would you do with that?
How ’bout craft cocktails & daquiri’s (we’re talking SpeakEasy-type-cocktails at home!), natural strawberry mix for homemade sodas & snow cones, topping for ice-cream & yogurt & waffles, flavoring for teas & water, and even a single serving option to add to wines & champagne. Yes, please!
If you’d like to see how it’s made, here’s a quick video:
Again, simply mix 1 cup boiling water and 1 packet Lush Strawberry Basil Lemonade (SBL). Continue to heat and stir until all is dissolved (except seeds and basil). Allow to cool. That’s it, you’ve got a wonderfully delicious gourmet organi syrup.
Vodka Daquiri: Shake 2 oz. vodka, 1 Tbsp lime juice & 1.5 Tbsp SBL simple syrup with ice. Pour and devour!

Strawberry Vodka Daiquiri
I generally just use 1-1.5 Tbsp syrup over yogurt or waffles.
Use 1/4-1/3 cup in 64 oz. iced or green tea.
The options are limitless – and delicious!.
All you need is 5 minutes, 1 cup of water and 1 package of Lush to make 8-12 servings of delicious, organic simple syrup. You can buy Strawberry Basil Lemonade Here.
Last thing, we have a big favor to ask. If you have tried any Lush variety, we’d LOVE (love, love) your honest review at: http://www.amazon.com/Lush-Wine-Mix-Delicious-Cocktails/dp/B00QJFLWB6/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1437655364&sr=8-4&keywords=lush+wine+mix It really helps us out. Thank you!

Lush Cocktail Mixes make Simple Syrup for Craft Cocktails!
(We have a winner – Congrats to Sarah Smith!!! Contact us at lush@lushwinemix.com to let us know where to send your Strawberry Basil Lemonade Bag.)
Sure, we all know Lush mixes make absolutely delicious wine cocktails. We’ve got that. But did you know, that Lush also makes amazing simple syrups for craft cocktails, desserts, homemade soda flavoring, yogurt or ice-cream toppings, water/tea flavorings and more? And, we’re not talking about a nasty, high fructose corn syrup, dyed, junk-ingredient syrup. It’s the same Lush mix you love, the ones that use organic, real-food ingredients.
All you need is 5 minutes, 1 cup of water and 1 package of Lush to make 8-12 servings of delicious, organic simple syurp.
My favorite? An old fashioned Strawberry Daiquiri. Here’s how you can make it at home:
Lush Old-Fashioned Strawberry Basil Daiquiri
Heat 1 cup water in pot on stovetop to a boil. Add 1 package of Lush Strawberry Basil Lemonade, reduce heat to a simmer, and stir well for ~3-4 minutes making sure the Lush mix is well mixed and dissolved (the basil & any strawberry seeds won’t dissolve). Allow to cool.
Meanwhile get out your shake and get ready to shake!
Pour 2 oz. vodka in a shaker. Add 1 Tbsp lime juice or water. Add 1-1.5 Tbsp Lush simple syrup (once cooled). Add ice. Shake well!
Pour into glass and enjoy. Delish and so, so, so very easy.

Happy New Year, Fellow Lushers! (by Steph)
Happy New Year, Fellow Lushers! Now that the holidays are over, it’s time to get on with that time honored tradition of setting a New Year’s Resolution, and if you’re like me, that resolution is better health. Hey, I’m approaching the big 40 next year. Better health is likely to be my resolution for several years to come. I know what you’re thinking. How does Lush fit in to my better health plan? That’s a stretch. Well, let me tell you how it fits into mine.
I’m not one of those people who carry around a gallon of distilled water and ensure that I drink the entire thing before bedtime. My morning starts out with my usual coffee and by mid-morning I may start thinking about having a glass of water. And let me be honest, I’m not thinking about just plain water. My bottle of water is going to be “dressed up” with a tube of drink mix so that my water doesn’t taste like boring ol’ water. But have you read the ingredients in those things? Even the better ones that use Stevia over Aspartame read like a chemistry project with citric acid, ascorbic acid, natural flavoring. Use several of those a day to meet that “8 Glasses a Day” rule, and you’ve put a lot of chemicals in your body while trying to be healthy!
So, what’s my solution, you might ask? I use Lush mix to flavor my water (hey, I love wine as much as the next guy, but my boss doesn’t promote a glass of wine during the work day). The ingredients come from real food, and the unique flavors go beyond the same ol’ boring raspberry lemonade that you get at the grocery store.
I recommend about ½ to 1 Tbsp per 8-12 ounces of water. It all depends on how much flavor you want in your water. And of course, I highly recommend that you try them all to find your favorites. In the meantime, you can try my recipe for post-workout hydration. The recipe includes two ingredients to help with that recovery and overall health goals. First, coconut water which provides potassium for my ever present shin splints. Second, I throw in flavored balsamic vinegar, which I find helps me even out my glucose levels.
Post-Workout Hydration for Lushes
1 cup Coconut Water
1 cup Water
1 cup Ice
1 Tbsp Flavored Vinegar
2 Tbsp Favorite Lush Mix
In a blender, combine all ingredients. Blend until smooth. Pour into glass (or my favorite, a mason jar) and enjoy!
Some combinations that you might want to try:
White Honey Ginger Balsamic Vinegar + Ginger Hibiscus
Lime Balsamic Vinegar + Blackberry Mojito
Vanilla Balsamic Vinegar + Lush Crush Sangria
Strawberry Balsamic Vinegar + Strawberry Basil Lemonade (or if you really like lemon flavor, go for the lemon balsamic vinegar)
Raspberry Balsamic Vinegar + Sangria
*If you’re wondering where you can find some of these vinegar flavors, I shop at Creede Olive Oil Company and Olio Tasting Room
So, there you have it, Lushers. You can now partake in daytime Lushing. Of course, now that you are well on your way to that New Year’s Resolution of a healthier lifestyle, remember to pour yourself a glass of Lush Wine Mix, wine and all, during the evening. After all, you worked out today, so you deserve a treat this evening!

Lush Crush Sangria!
We’ve got a new flavor, and it’s just in time for Football Season! It’s called Lush Crush Sangria, and it’s a refreshingly delicious orange sangria made specifically for white wine (we like Sauvignon Blanc). And best of all, this cocktail is actually orange (in color)! If you know our story of how Lush Wine Mix began, you know that Denver Bronco games were a big part of it. Were huge Bronco fans, and we are thrilled to share this newest Lush flavor with you this week (whether you’re a Bronco fan or not).
As always, we use all-natural and organic ingredients, and even the orange color in Lush Crush comes from nature (organic turmeric & organic annatto seed – don’t worry, the flavor is fabulous). And the orange flavor? Well, it comes from oranges…
To introduce this new member of our line-up we thought we’d have a little fun with Bronco Trivia and give a bag away in time for the 1st game of the season. Here’s how to win:
Send us an email with the answers to the following Broncos Trivia Questions. If you send in all correct answers before 11:59 pm today (9/8/15, mtn time), we’ll enter your name into the drawing 3 times. Send them by 12:00 pm noon tomorrow (9/9/15, mtn time), and we’ll enter it 1 time. We’ll draw the winner at noon tomorrow. Make sure to send your email from a working email address so we can contact you as soon as possible if you win, and send your free Lush Crush Sangria in time for Sunday’s game! (And of course we’d sooner use food coloring than share your email, and you know neither is going to happen!)
Lush Crush BRONCO Trivia:
- What was the name of the original stadium the Broncos played in when the team first started in 1960?
- Which player caught the most touchdowns passes from John Elway?
- Who was the first Bronco player to be elected into the Hall of Fame?
Send your answers to lush@lushwinemix.com today! Good Luck!

We’ve got a new flavor coming out soon, and let us be the first to tell you: It. Is. Delicious. There will be more on that in the weeks to come, but it’s an under-statement to say that we are excited to present it.
While coming up with our new recipe, we recently took to the Lush Test Kitchen. It’s a hard-knock life for sure. Making cocktails, drinking them, making more, testing them, drinking them, muddling them. All to create new Lush flavors. But, before you go and get all teary-eyed for us, let me tell you about a new hand-dandy muddler I got to try out…the Artic Chill Stainless Steel Muddler.
We were approached about testing and reviewing it a few months back. I had been waiting for a good opportunity, and a blackberry mojito was perfect (see why we’re excited? wink). This muddler worked so well. It surprised me that a good quality muddler made such as difference! As any mojito mixologist knows, you really have to crush the mint leaves to get the best flavor out, and of course, I wanted my mojito to taste like blackberries, not simply be garnished by them.
The Artic Chill Muddler has a nice handle and has very “aggressive” teeth on it. It made my work a lot easier and a lot faster. I was able to smash out the delicious flavor of the mint and mash the berries into a thick juice in no time at all. It also looks great – a modern design and stainless steel.
Whether in my own kitchen or the Lush test kitchen, I look forward to my next muddling! I can also think of more than a few friends who would love one of their own (easy gift option).
Want to try it out for yourself? Check out the Artic Chill site and find this muddler here on Amazon. And, if you like delicious mojito’s, stay tuned because we have one of our best Lush Flavors coming right up!

I love most all of them.
However, I’ll skip #2. Ain’t nobody got time for that one. If I’m going to make my own giftwrap, it’s gonna be a brown paper bag with staples at the top (then I’ll claim my kids did it). Roasted Turkey in an Oven Bag from food.com. I’m actually just learning this technique as well for a moist, delicious turkey. Use olive oil or avocado oil rather than canola oil, and enjoy this for dinner and leftovers!
Vegetarian Main Dish: Roasted Acorn Squash Stuffed with Wild Rice Salad from Beard & Bonnet. Whether eating vegetarian or you want a flavorful side dish, look no further than roasted, stuffed acorn squash. Yum!
Roasted Beet Winter Salad from Cooking Light. Cooking Light is one of my favorite go-to sites for recipes and always comes through with delicious dishes.
Spicy Broccoli Soup from Loving the Bike. Quite simply, you won’t be disappointed with this soup. It’s refreshing, healthy, easy, and satisfying.
Twice-Baked Sweet Potatoes from Food Network. In a word, these are simply delicious. To make them a bit healthier, omit sugar and use 3 Tbsp organic honey. Replace butter with coconut oil (or if using butter, try to used butter from organic fed or grazed cattle).
Roasted Cauliflower from Food Network. Good for you and Delish!
Crustless Maple Pumpkin Pie and No-Bake Pecan Pie Squares from the Detoxinista. Both are grain-less, gluten-free, and dairy free. While they are light and nourishing, they still taste divine (and will leave you with plenty of room for Spiced Wine!). Enjoy!
Spiced Wine from Lush Wine Mix (of course!). Our wine cocktail mixes are packed with organic and real-food goodness. We use freeze-dried fruits and organic spices (which means antioxidants from the mix and the wine!), and contain 50% less sugar than traditional mulled wine. They taste A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. Lush Spiced Wine will save you time and money since you don’t have to track down all the spices yourself. (use coupon code holiday2014 for 25% off 3 and 6-packs – US shipping only).
Done and done. We hope you enjoy delicious food, family, friends and lots of love (and wine) around the dinner table.

It’s Monday. And sometimes, you’ve just gotta laugh. It’s the best medicine after all, reducing blood pressure, sending all kinds of feel-good hormones throughout your body, and even improving brain function. Okay, I made the brain function one up. But still, if you’ve got a spare 4 minutes, laugh with me a little about our Holiday traditions, and relieve some stress this Monday (wine is perfectly acceptable for the same in just a few hours).

Hot Apple Toddy’s
Hopefully wherever you are, you’re enjoying warmer weather, but for those of us here in Colorado fall is in full swing and it is getting COLD! It’s so cold that it actually feels like winter has arrived. Snow and below zero temperatures. The cold weather has had me craving a nice warm hot toddy. Traditional Hot Toddy’s are made with tea; however, I’ve never been fond of tea. A few winter’s ago we had some dear friends, Brandon and Meghan, over for dinner and I was hesitant when they offered to bring ingredients for hot toddy’s; however, they used apple cider in place of the tea and low and behold one of my favorite winter cocktails was born! Enjoy this yummy twist on the classic hot toddy recipe. Cheers!
Ingredients:
- 5 oz apple cider
- 2 oz whiskey
- juice from 1 lemon
- cinnamon stick
Instructions:
Heat apple cider and cinnamon stick on the stove top over medium high heat. Once heated add juice from 1 lemon and 2 oz of whiskey

With Halloween coming tomorrow, we thought today would be the perfect chance to share these 10 Candy Cocktails compiled by MSN. The Twix Martini sounds To. Die. For. Chocolate and caramel… yum! We also like the idea of rimming your glass with pop rocks candy for an added bang on your cocktail. Pick a recipe and get to mixin! Cheers!
When we found this chart over at The Kitchn, we knew we couldn’t keep it to ourselves! Of course we’re all going to indulge in some of the kids Halloween candy this year, but did you know you can up the ante by pairing that candy with the appropriate wine. Oh. Yes. Indulgence at it’s finest.
Cheers!
Today for Thirsty Thursday, we’re featuring a post from Real House Moms. They pulled together a compilation of recipes for 25 fun Halloween drinks. With Halloween being on a Friday this year, that means you can enjoy twice the cocktails with half the guilt! We’ve highlighted some of our favorites from the list below, but you can check out the full list here, choose your favorites, and party on! Cheers!
Pumpkin Chai Hot Buttered Rum from White Lights on Wednesday- A unique alcoholic twist on a pumpkin chai!
The Grave Digger from Boulder Locavore features hard cider and whiskey. How can you go wrong with this combination?
The Raven from Smarty Had a Party- The combination of blackberry and mint is to die for!
Last week we featured a delicious autumn slow cooker recipe and it was delicious. Especially as the days start getting shorter, it becomes harder and harder to feel like you’re getting dinner made and on the table by a reasonable time. In comes the slow cooker. If you don’t have a crockpot, get one. They are a life saver for those of us that have too much going on throughout the day (which, let’s face it, is most of us these days).
This recipe from Pinch of Yum was just too yummy not to share. Creole Sausage and Chicken. Oh. So. Good. If you need this ready in just 3 hours, just turn that crockpot up to high and wam. bam. you’ve got a delicious dinner in 3 hours for minimal work.
We recommend pairing this meal with a sweet Sauvignon blanc. The lower alcohol content as well as the dry, herbal undertones is the perfect balance for the spicy elements in this meal.
Can you believe Halloween’s less than 3 weeks away?!? I can’t. I’m now if full-on costume-making mode. With 4 kids, it’s takes awhile. And, it’s time to think about a few easy decorations for the rest of October, and for any Halloween partying before and after trick-or-treating. Here’s the thing:
Halloween’s on a Friday this year. You’ve gotta be prepared.
And, just in case you’re not yet prepared, here’s some incredibly easy, low-cost Halloween party hacks from Buzzfeed:
I especially like the Pumpkin Keg and Glow-in-the-Dark Eyes. But that’s just me? Which will you use this year?
Let the fun begin!

Today we’re featuring a unique cocktail recipe created and shared by A Farm Girl’s Dabbles. This recipe was too unique and too delicious not to share with you! The way we see it, you can’t go wrong with bacon. Hungry for breakfast? Bacon. Need a yummy topping on your cupcake? Bacon. Something to wrap around your steak? Bacon. Delicious addition on your sandwich? Bacon. So, when we saw this recipe for a Bacon Bourbon Old Fashioned, we knew we had to try it out. No surprise here, but it was delicious and unique. If you’re looking to try something new in the cocktail world, hop over to A Farm Girl’s Dabbles and check it out! Cheers!
Ingredients:
- 2 oz. bacon bourbon (see recipe at A Farm Girl’s Dabbles)
- 3/4 oz. grade A pure maple syrup
- 2 to 3 dashes of orange bitters
- 1 piece of fresh orange peel
Instructions:
Combine first three ingredients in cocktail shaker. Shake and strain into a short cocktail glass over ice. Garnish with fresh orange peel. Enjoy!
I’d love to tell you that I cook up a delicious breakfast for myself and my family each morning. I don’t. Grab-n-go is usually my style, since I’m usually packing lunches and backpacks while the rest of the crew eats. I need something quick and sustaining. And something that goes well with my coffee. Here’s one of my favorites. When made ahead of time, these last a week and make a great no-time-needed breakfast. Just 8 yummy, whole-food, nourishing ingredients:
Recipe of the Week: Dark Chocolate Pumpkin Breakfast “Cookies”
Ingredients:
- 1 Cup natural creamy almond butter, peanut butter, cashew butter OR sunflower seed butter
- 1/4 cup honey (local, raw if possible) or pure maple
- 1/2 cup pumpkin puree (organic if possible)
- 1/3 cup chia seeds
- 1.5 tsp pumpkin spice
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1/4 tsp sea salt
- 1/3 cup dark chocolate chips (preferably 60%+ cocoa)
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a medium bowl, mix all ingredients, folding chocolate chips in last. Spoon onto a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper, about 1 heaping tablespoon per cookie. If you’d like flatter cookies with the traditional criss-cross design, gently press down each mound with a wet fork.
Bake ~12-15 minutes or until slightly browned around edges. Allow to cool before serving. Enjoy! Makes ~18-24 cookies
Yum and yum.

Ever wonder what really goes in to tasting wine? Ever wonder what exactly you’re looking for when you’re tasting wine? We love this infograph from Drinked In breaking down everything from what glasses are used, to how to smell the wine, to how to taste the wine. Check it out below and get to tasting! Cheers!
You might as well get used to it…it’s all-pumpkin, all-the-time for the next 2 months or so. Since I just bought 6 cans of organic pumpkin puree from Costco for about $5, I’m embracing the tradition full-on. And, so will my kids. That’s right kids, start embracing.
In honor of this forceful vegetable takeover, here are 31 Awesome recipes using canned pumpkin, from Greatist.com. And later this week, I’ll share my recipe for Pumpkin Breakfast Cookies (yum. and yum. REALLY!). So get out there and stock up on pumpkin puree!
31 Pumpkin Recipes from Greatist.com
Drinks
1. Pumpkin Pineapple Cocktail Pumpkin has a smooth, warming quality that typically lends itself to creamier dishes, but it also works well in this sweet, citrusy cocktail terrific for any season.
2. Pumpkin Pie Protein Shake Get jacked-o’-lantern (… sorry) with this muscle-building shake—the perfect end to a brisk outdoor workout.
3. Pumpkin Smoothie For a practically guilt-free dessert, this terrific vegan recipe tastes just like a pie without the pastry. Bottoms up!
4. Pumpkin Egg Nog An awesome twist on the holiday staple, this is how to start a December morning—and the sugar-free version has far fewer calories than your typical nog.
5. Pumpkin Chai Latte What could be better to sip on in front of a crackling fireplace? This no-frills recipe simply adds pumpkin to chai tea, but it bestows a depth and smoothness that’s perfectly warming.
Snacks
6. Pumpkin Butter Like a regular bit of butter, but better! To get the morning feeling extra seasonal, try this pretty healthy, cinnamon-spiced spread (there’s not that much sugar) on a muffin, pancake, or some freshly-baked bread.
7. Pumpkin and Sage Savory Muffins Savory muffins just don’t get enough play, but this is a super simple, delicious way to bring them to the table. Made with oats, olive oil, herbs, and apple cider vinegar, they’ve got no added sugar but can still warm from head to toe.
8. Pumpkin Pie Brown Rice Krispies Half a cup of maple syrup might seem like a lot, but when it’s spread among sixteen servings it makes for a healthy, delicious cereal square—without all the marshmallows.
9. Gluten-Free Pumpkin and Coconut Squares Packed with coconut, ginger, and cinnamon, these bars are melt-in-your mouth delicious and contain no wheat, butter, or sugar.
10. Pumpkin Scones Perfect with cinnamon and peanut butter, fresh berries, or some Greek yogurt and honey, this American twist on the British staple is the perfect accompaniment to a cup of tea and a good book.
11. Savory Pumpkin Hummus The recipe for this unusual dip has just one step: throw everything in a food processor. The mixture of chickpeas, pumpkin, cumin, and cayenne creates a rich, Middle Eastern flavor well suited to pita and antipasto.
Breakfast
13. Pumpkin Pie Pancakes With just one tablespoon of sugar between four servings these rich, intoxicating pancakes are a healthier option for kids and adults alike. They also pair beautifully with preserves, yogurt, nuts—you name it!
14. Crockpot Pumpkin Oatmeal There’s something magical about the way crockpots make healthy food even more delicious. This recipe uses extra healthy steel-cut oats. Put everything in the crockpot before heading to bed, and you’ll wake to a luxurious (and bright orange) breakfast that will keep you full until the afternoon.
15. Healthy Spiced Yogurt Parfaits This parfait takes only take ten minutes to prepare and makes breakfast feel like dessert. Full of Greek yogurt, granola, cinnamon, and nutmeg, this dish is so simple and delicious that it’s sure to become a staple.
16. Pumpkin Spice Latte Quinoa Breakfast Casserole The name might sound like a game of Madlibs, but this gluten-free and protein-rich breakfast is no joke. Flawlessly melding the flavors of coconut, pecans, maple, and vanilla, it’s hard to believe how healthy this breakfast is—just make sure you have an hour to prepare it!
17. Whole-Wheat Pumpkin Yeast Waffles The batter can be made the night before, and with less than half a tablespoon of brown sugar per waffle, it’s easy for this tasty, crispy breakfast to become a morning mainstay. Try them topped with fresh berries and Greek yogurt!
Mains
18. Pumpkin Black Bean Burgers Pumpkin has never really found a home between bread, but these gluten-free patties will change the way you think about burgers. Be sure to remember the cilantro-lemon crema to add a zesty tang to this Mexican-inspired main.
19. Pumpkin Meatloaf with Pumpkin BBQ Sauce This smoky, flavorful loaf is just right on a chilly Fall evening. The BBQ sauce adds an extra dimension to the savory/sweet dynamic—just don’t go overboard on the sugar!
20. Pumpkin, Black Bean, and Jalapeño Quesadilla Pumpkin tastes so smooth and creamy that it’s amazing we don’t mix it with cheese more often. These quesadillas are a terrific “level-up” for you standard Mexican fare, and the substitution of Greek yogurt for sour cream is an especially nice touch.
21. Pumpkin and Cashew Ricotta-Stuffed Pasta Shells This innovative vegan recipe uses cashews as a base for the “ricotta” stuffing and the sage “cream” sauce. Cashews are so high in fat that you certainly won’t miss the dairy—and your guests won’t know what hit ‘em!
22. Chickpea Pumpkin Patties For a high-fiber patty, try this spicy, deep orange concoction that comes alive with fresh basil and parsley. The recipe already contains breadcrumbs, so try serving the “burger” on a bed of vegetables with some tahini or mustard.
23. Pumpkin Shrimp Curry To many of us, pumpkin is synonymous with fall, chilly breezes, and Thanksgiving fare, but this dish drops a can into a traditional, South Asian curry to great effect. The coconut, ginger, and lime add an unusual dimension to the vegetable, but it works beautifully.
Desserts
24. Pumpkin Protein Fudge Smooth, decadent, and protein-packed, nobody will guess this is a healthy dessert! The coconut oil and almond butter provide filling fats to help give this treat an unmistakeable melt-in-your-mouth quality.
25. Pumpkin Cheesecake Ice Cream It’s neither cheesecake nor ice cream — it’s better. This high-protein mixture of Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, almond milk, and pumpkin will satisfy any late night ice cream craving without piling on the calories.
26. Pumpkin Pie Frozen Yoghurt Fro-yo gets a bad wrap for being more or less ice cream in disguise, but this vegan recipe uses vanilla-flavored coconut yogurt to create an innovative and healthy dessert — just make sure you have four hours to freeze the stuff!
27. Gluten-Free Pumpkin Cookies Sweetened only with raisins and a little agave, baking these vegan cookies is a great way to spend an autumn afternoon. It’s wise to cook in small batches, though — it’s a little too easy to eat an entire tray!
28. Pumpkin Spice Baked Donuts Made from a lengthy but delicious list of ingredients that includes oats, ground flaxseed, banana, and yogurt, these donuts are filling, healthy, and a lot of fun to serve. Feel free to omit the dusting of cinnamon sugar, or substitute plain cinnamon or nutmeg instead.
29. Pumpkin Chia Seed Pudding Jam-packed with the holy trinity of protein, fiber, and omega-3s, chia also forms a goopy gel when it’s added to liquid. This makes it’s perfect for making healthy puddings, and this coconut-based variation is an amazing example.
30. Pumpkin Custard If you can get your hands on some stevia, this recipe makes a super healthy, sugar-free dessert that can be enjoyed morning, noon, or night.
For the dog
31. Chicken Liver and Pumpkin Ice Cream… for Dogs
We said “weird” recipes, didn’t we? It turns out pumpkin purée is a great way to help with canine constipation, but even healthy pooches love this liver-stuffed ice cream. Why should Fido be the only one without a holiday treat?
Thanks Greatist.com and Costco! Bring on the pumpkin!

This week marks the first week of the MLB postseason. Since baseball is America’s classic pasttime, we thought what better way to celebrate the first week of the postseason than with a list of the top 5 classic cocktails!
5. The Classic Martini- Nowadays there are many ways to order your martini. With vodka or gin, shaken or stirred, straight up or on the rocks, dirty or dry. The classic cocktail is made with gin and vermouth, a dash of bitters, and olives and a twist for garnish. Stirred, never shaken. Keep it classy and give this classic a spin
- 2 1/2 oz gin
- 1/2 oz dry vermouth
- orange or Angostura bitters
- 1 green olive & orange twist for garnish
Combine ingredients in a cocktail shaker. Stir (don’t shake for a classic cocktail). Pour into a chilled martini glass and garnish with olive and orange twist.
4. Manhattan- The Manhattan is a classic and manly drink. Perfect for an after-work drink while watching some postseason baseball. This version of the Manhattan has a little extra splash of maraschino cherry juice, but if you’d like to really stick to the classic, don’t add extra cherry juice, only the cherry for garnish. Recipe Here.
3. Old Fashioned- If there’s any other Mad Men fans out there, you know why this classic cocktail has made a comeback in recent years. The mix of sweetness and Bourbon makes a truly delicious cocktail.
- 1/2 tsp sugar, 2 dashes of bitters dissolved in 1 1/2 oz water to make simple syrup
- 3 oz bourbon whiskey
- Maraschino cherry
- Orange slice
- Lemon twist
Fill short cocktail glass with ice. Pour in Bourbon Whiskey. Pour in simple syrup. Stir. Garnish with cherry, orange slice, and lemon twist.
2. Scotch on the rocks- nothing says classic like a glass of scotch on the rocks. Scotch is simply whisky produced in Scotland. If you’re not familiar with scotch check out this Scotch Drinking 101 article from The Vivant. The article will help get you up to speed and sipping on this classic in no time.
1. Beer- Alright, so we know it’s not a cocktail, but if you’re watching postseason baseball, beer is a must. As we’ve mentioned before, we’re partial to Colorado Craft Beers, but there are so many delicious beers out there. Grab your favorite, kick back, and let’s play ball!
Cheers!

I’ve been getting more and more excited about all of the flavors of fall. Apple, cinnamon, ginger, etc. But, here in Colorado we’re still experiencing temperatures in the high 80’s. That kind of weather will have you wishing for a summer cocktail rather than an autumn cocktail. This cocktail is the perfect blend of summer and fall. The fresh lime juice and the dark rum scream summer drink, but the pear and the ginger beer bring a nice autumn flavor to this delicious cocktail. Whatever the weather is like where you’re at, this drink is sure to hit the spot. Cheers!
Ingredients
1 1/2 oz (1 shot) Dark Rum
1 teaspoon fresh lime juice
1/2 cup non-alcoholic ginger beer
1/2 cup pear juice (not nectar)
Instructions
Combine dark rum, lime juice, and pear juice in a cocktail shaker. Shake for 5-7 seconds. Grab a cocktail glass filled with ice. Pour in shaker mixture and then add ginger beer to top it off. Enjoy!
What could be better than sitting down and enjoying a nice glass of wine after work? How about enjoying one and NOT having to cook, because dinner is done.
Yes, please. That’s called a real “happy hour.”
Especially with less daylight hours, I’m all about the slow cooker this time of year and through Winter (really, works great all year). Here’s my favorite Autumn slow cooker recipe and a couple resources for more:
Delicious Butternut Squash Pork Stew
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 pounds pork boneless loin, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 3 medium carrots, cut into 1/4-inch slices (1 1/2 cups)
- 1 medium onion, chopped (1/2 cup)
- 32 ounces chicken broth
- 2 cups 1/2-inch diced peeled parsnips (or an additional 4 carrots if not parsnips available)
- 1 1/2 cups 1-inch cubes peeled butternut squash
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 3 tablespoons flour OR 1.5 Tbsp cornstarch for gluten-free
- 3 tablespoons butter or organic coconut oil
Instructions:
- Mix all ingredients except flour and butter in 3 1/2- to 6-quart slow cooker.
- Cover and cook on low heat setting 6 to 7 hours (or high heat setting 3 to 4 hours) or until pork is no longer pink and vegetables are tender.
- Mix flour and butter. Gently stir flour mixture, 1 spoonful at a time, into pork mixture until blended.
- Cover and cook on high heat setting 30 to 45 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
Comments:
If you think slow cookers are out-dated, over-rated, or complicated (yes, I’m in a rhyming mood), you ought to give one another try. They are amazingly simply time savers that de-stress dinner time and allow for wonderfully healthful meals. They can make cooking for a family easy. Or, they can provide freezable leftovers if cooking for one or two (just cool, divide into appropriate portions, and freeze in freezer baggies for up to 6 months). And, a bit of extra time to enjoy some wine.

The sense of smell is one of our most powerful senses. It has the power to help us bring back memories that we otherwise would have long forgotten. It has the power to remind us of places, like the smell of cotton candy taking you to Main Street USA on your Disney World vacation. It has the power to remind us of times in our lives like that summer you lived on the coast and woke up to the salty humidity of the ocean each morning. It has the power to remind us of people, like the musty smell of old cigar smoke taking you back to sitting on grandpa’s lap as a child. Smell is a sense unlike our other senses in it’s ability to trigger our memories in a strong and powerful way.
Today’s post is a quick and easy stovetop recipe that will make your house smell like all things fall. It’s perfect to throw on the stovetop before you have company over or before a relaxing evening at home.
- 2-3 cinnamon sticks
- a few whole cloves
- 2-3 drops of vanilla extract
- 2-3 star anise (if you have them, if not, you can easily leave this ingredient out)
- 1 orange sliced into round thin slices
- 1-2 packets of mulling spice (these can also be found at almost any grocery store)
Fill a midsized pot half way with warm water over medium low heat. Drop in all ingredients and allow to simmer. You can leave this mix on the stove top for at least a few hours. Be sure to add additional water as needed if your water starts to dry up. Enjoy the warm and inviting smell of fall in your home. This scent will be sure to help you make and remember memories for years to come!
It’s been said that Autumn is the second spring, where every leaf is a flower (Albert Camus). Sounds good to me. What better way to celebrate a second spring than with a color trip?!? How about a color trip and a wine tour? It may be past mid-September, but don’t despair; in many parts of the country you’re just in time for Autumn’s best colors. Check out the Best Autumn color trips, according to Fodor’s Travel:
The 10 Best Foliage Trips in the US
Well, what about the wine? Many of Fodor’s Trips are in areas that are also “wine country.” Of course, there’s Sonoma. And, in my neck of the woods, there’s Colorado’s Western Slope. For colors, begin in Crested Butte, Colorado and travel over Kebler pass to Paonia. You’ll see the world’s largest Aspen grove. Then, continue to Palisade and the surrounding area, for a tour of Colorodo’s Wine Country:

Here in Colorado we had about 2 days of cool fall weather last weekend and now we’re back in the 80’s (at least for this week… welcome to CO), but each morning there is a crisp in the air that tells us fall is coming and it’s coming soon. This crisp air has got me craving a crisp autumn cocktail and this delicious concoction fits the bill. An autumn twist on a brunch classic. It’s delicious! Cheers!
Ingredients:
3 ounces chilled apple cider
1 ounce brandy
1/2 teaspoon light brown sugar
4 ounces chilled champagne or sparkling wine
Apple Slice for garnish
Instructions:
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add apple cider, brandy and brown sugar to the cocktail shaker and shake until combined. Strain the mixture into a champagne flute and add champagne. Now you have a delicious autumn brunch drink. Garnish with an apple slice. Enjoy!

Leaves are beginning to change. Where I live, it’s almost 90 degrees one day, and 50 degrees the next, so it seems surreal to see yellow and orange and red leaves when it still feels like summer. But nonetheless, Fall’s just about here.
This can only mean one thing: Time to break out the glue gun.
If your home is still saying “summer” in its decor, these 30 Beautiful Autumn DIY Decorating Ideas are for you. Most of them are quick and easy. And, they’re perfect if planning any Autumn parties or get-togethers. Of course, once you’re done, you should sit back, relax, and admire your creations while enjoying a nice glass of Lush.

There’s been a lot of chatter lately about the Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks. Apparently there’s not real pumpkin in their recipe. Shocking, terrible, but it is oh-so-delicious! There’s a lot of alternate recipes out there on how to make your own PSL with real ingredients at home. I’ve tested out a handful of recipes and here is the recipe that I’ve found to be the winner! This recipe is about 90 calories as opposed to the 300 calories that find their way into the coffeehouse version of this drink. Sit back and enjoy without feeling too guilty about your indulgence! Cheers!
- 3/4 cup milk OR unsweetened almond milk for a dairy free version
- 2 1/2 tablespoons pureed pumpkin (fresh or from the can)
- 1 tablespoon packed light brown sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup brewed coffee (add additional or use espresso for a stronger coffee taste)
- Cinnamon
Heat milk, pumpkin, brown sugar, pumpkin pie spice and vanilla extract on stove top over medium high heat stirring constantly until combined and steaming. Pour coffee into a mug, add milk mixture on top and stir gently to combine. Sprinkle cinnamon on top or add a cinnamon stick for flavor. Enjoy!
Tailgating is always better when the food is delicious. Sure, you could grill up the old-standby hot dogs and call it a day, or you could serve up some delicious Roasted Jalapeno Poppers. I’ll admit that some of these options are more make-ahead than grill-at-the-game. But either way, Food Network is a go-to site for fabulous recipes, and this list doesn’t disappoint.

This is certainly a delightful video for a Friday, and well-worth 2 minutes of your time. Notice Lush is not included as it would ruin the video knocking his socks off with it’s organic, delicious, ingredients. Apparently, these other options are “From the halfway decent to the completely ghastly.”
And just FYI, for whoever put the “?” after stone fruit…stone fruit is just a fruit with a “stone” or a “pit” in the middle. Apricots. Peaches. Cherries. Etc. Yes, I’m a smartypants today. Enjoy!

If you’ve never tried gin before, now is a great time to give it a shot. Gin is a grain based hard alcohol infused with juniper berries giving it a fresh evergreen like taste. Gin always makes me think of Christmas. The lemon juice and the small amount of sugar from the simple syrup balance nicely with the juniper taste of gin making this a light and refreshing cocktail. Cheers!
Gin Fizz Ingredients:
- 2 oz gin
- 1 oz simple syrup
- 1 oz fresh lemon juice
- 4 oz club soda
- Mint leaf and lemon slice for garnish
Instructions:
Shake gin, simple syrup, and lemon juice together in a cocktail shaker. Fill a short cocktail glass with ice and pour mixture over ice. Pour club soda into the glass and garnish as desired. Enjoy!
It’s Wine Wednesday , our opportunity to enjoy, discuss, and learn a bit more about wine. Today, we’ve gathered this list of ten things you may not know about wine from the Chicago Tribune. How many did you actually know before today?
1. Wine was first produced about 8,000 years ago in the South Caucasus, according to scientists who tested residue from an ancient pottery shard dated to about 6,000 B.C. Which means history waited about 2,500 years before it saw its first drunken driver. The wheel wasn’t invented until about 3,500 B.C.
2. Even in his wine drinking, President Richard Nixon was sneaky. He would offer run-of-the-mill wine to his guests while servers poured Chateau Margaux into his glass from a bottle wrapped with a towel or napkins to hide the label.
4, What do you call a leprechaunlike creature that likes to drink? It’s a clurichaun. According to an Irish folk legend, clurichauns are fairies that hang out around the wine cellar, either guarding the stock or raiding it or both.
5. In the mid-1980s, about 36 million bottles of wine went undrunk, with their contents used instead to cool the ovens of a cement factory. Why? Because Austrian producers had adulterated their wines with a toxic substance, diethylene glycol, to sweeten it so it was more valuable. They got caught, and the wine was banned. No one died in the scandal, but the Austrian wine industry was badly injured.
6. Benjamin Franklin famously wrote in a lighthearted letter to a friend that wine is “a constant proof that God loves us.” Later in the same letter, to further his point, he raises a toast to the elbow, so ingeniously designed as to allow the arm to bring a goblet of wine “exactly to the mouth,” a sure sign of God’s “benevolent wisdom.”
8. It wasn’t William Sokolin’s night. At a gathering of wine enthusiasts at the Four Seasons in Manhattan in April 1989, he was showing off a bottle of Chateau Margaux 1787. That vintage is worth a mint, but this bottle, etched with the initials “Th J,” was believed to have come from Thomas Jefferson’s own wine cellar. Sokolin said it was worth more than $519,000. Unfortunately, he accidentally hit the bottle against a table, breaking two holes into the back of the bottle. Wine gushed out. Horrified, he bolted from the restaurant with the broken bottle and went straight home. But his bad night wasn’t over. He had attended the event with his wife. She had to borrow taxi fare to get home.
9. Before early Champagne bottlers perfected the use of the cork, the drink was called the “devil’s wine” because the bottles were prone to shatter if jostled — or even explode without warning if gas built up in a defective bottle.

5. The Side Car– A classic and manly cocktail. The lemon juice makes this cocktail a little bit sour and the combination of the cognac and Cointreau gives this cocktail a kick that will keep on coming. Check out a recipe for this cocktail here.
4. Old Fashion- Of course adding whiskey to any cocktail ups the manliness factor, which is why we chose this timeless and simple cocktail. There are many twists on this classic drink, but we love the original. Check out the recipe for the original here.
3. The Godfather– This cocktail is easy yet impressive. It is a great way to ease yourself in to the scotch world. All you need is 1 & 1/2 oz. scotch and 3/4 oz. amaretto. Pour over ice in a short cocktail glass, stir, and enjoy!
2. Bloody Mary’s– This cocktail is the perfect drink for those early Sunday morning games. Check out this post for some killer ideas on how to make the best Bloody Mary.

Our strategy for giving is 3-prong: local town, local metropolitan area/city, and nationwide. Every time we sell a bag of Lush, we give a portion of the profit to one of the charities we’ve chosen. Feeding America is our choice for nationwide hunger relief.
1 Bag of Lush = 1 Donation to Fight Hunger!
Feeding America is our nation’s leading domestic hunger-relief charity. Their mission is to “feed America’s hungry through a nationwide network of member food banks and engage our country in the fight to end hunger. Each year, the Feeding America network provides food assistance to more than 25 million low-income people facing hunger in the United States, including more than nine million children and nearly three million seniors. Our network of more than 200 food banks serves all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. The Feeding America network secures and distributes more than two billion pounds of donated food and grocery products annually.” With their large reach and extremely efficient operation, they really make each dollar stretch to help as many as possible. I don’t know about you, but I am really looking forward to this Labor Day weekend. A chance to relax and sip on a few cocktails with family and friends. maraschino cherry juice to taste

A Bloody Mary Bar is a perfect addition to any brunch party! A Bloody Mary bar allows your guests to make their cocktail exactly to their liking and it also frees you up to enjoy the brunch yourself instead of constantly making cocktails for your guests. Having a wide range of options at your bar also allows your guests to try their hand at a little bartending and come up with some fun new recipes. Who knows, maybe you’ll find your new favorite version of this classic cocktail at the party!
Be sure to have glasses, ice, & mixing spoons on hand. Keep in mind, you don’t have to provide all of these items to your guests. These lists are meant to serve as a starting point to get your imagination rolling. I’d recommend putting some sort of sign out along with your bar noting instructions. Something simple such as 1. salt your glass 2. choose your base 3. choose your alcohol 4. flavor to your liking 5. Garnish away! If you’d like, you can also provide a few recipe cards at the bar for your guests with some recipe ideas to get the creative juices flowing. Cheers!

Margaritas are one of my absolute favorite drinks. I love trying all sorts of different new flavors and types of margaritas. There are just so many different options! I tried almost every margarita on the menu when my husband and I were down in Florida at La Cava Del Tequila, but one of my favorites is their blood orange margarita. Blood Oranges are grown in the States during the winter months, but more often than not you can enjoy them year round from a specialty grocery store like Whole Food, Trader Joe’s or Sprouts. The sweet and slightly sour mix of the blood oranges in addition to the lime juice makes this tangy margarita the perfect combination of sweet and sour. The spicy cayenne pepper mixture on the glass rim adds a kick that pairs perfectly with the sweetness in the blood oranges. This is by far one of my favorite margaritas and I hope you’ll enjoy it too! Cheers!
Blood Orange Margarita
Ingredients:
- 2 ounces tequila
- 2 ounce Grand Marnier
- 1/2 ounce fresh squeezed lime juice
- 1 ounce fresh squeezed blood orange juice
- cayenne pepper and kosher salt mixed for garnish
Instructions:
Mix the first four ingredients together in a cocktail shaker over ice. Dip the rim of a short cocktail glass into extra lime juice then immediately dip the rim of the glass into the mixture of cayenne pepper and kosher salt. Pour the cocktail into the glass and enjoy!

We decided to focus on families, and specifically children, struggling with hunger. While creating, manufacturing, and selling a gourmet food/drink product, we were also all-too-aware that there are children in our own communities, country, and world that don’t have enough food at all. We’re not talking about not having enough gourmet food. We’re talking about enough food, period. It’s heart-breaking. And, it’s time to help.
So, we set out to find a way to help with Lush. From the beginning, we’ve given a portion of every bag sold to children and families struggling with hunger (see our “Feeding Families” page here). Locally, we’ve been honored to give to the Golden Backpack Program, which sends food home with kids who do not have enough during the weekends and summer, when school is not in session.
Today, we’d love to share more about this wonderful program with you. If you have a moment, check out there website. One thing we really love about this program is that it strives to send nourishing, healthful, fresh foods home, and even operates a community garden in the summer to do so.
Golden Back Program
Thanks for supporting us in our business. We hope you also consider support the Golden Backpack Program or one near you through Lush or directly. We are honored to have the opportunity to do so, and pledge to continue to use Lush to help others get enough to eat.
We all know that we should be drinking more water throughout the day, but sometimes it can get a little boring just sipping on plain old water. In comes fruit infused water. Infusing your water with fruit is easy and oh-so-delicious. Infusing your water with certain fruits and herbs can also help up your metabolism to give you extra benefits to chugging that H2O. It is best to let your fruit infused water sit for about 1 hour before drinking, but if you don’t have that time, you can also smoosh up the fruit just a little bit with a fork to release some of it’s flavors. Check out some of our favorite fruit infused water recipes. Cheers!

It’s no secret that we love Sangrias here at Lush. Before ever creating our own all natural Lush Sangria mix, we’d been experimenting with fruit combinations and recipes for years. When we set out to make Lush Sangria, we decided to stick with citrus fruits simply because we enjoyed these flavors the most, and felt like they were the most refreshing summer combination (which went well with wine slushies). Of course, we were also very interested in making sure we could use real freeze-dried fruits rather than any chemical “flavorings.” Once we found the ingredients and combination we wanted, Lush Sangria was born.
However, the story of the Sangria started centuries earlier in Spain and in the mid-1900s in America. In case you’re wondering, here’s a little Sangria history from http://www.sangriasecrets.com/the-history-of-sangria.html:
In order to discover the true history of sangria, we have to go back hundreds of years, when the world seemed much larger, modern history was unwritten, and vineyards were beginning to spread across the Iberian peninsula.
And the people who did this—the people who planted the ancient vineyards of Spain—did not arrive peacefully. They arrived spilling blood. They were the Romans. This was around 200 BC. They conquered Spain. They planted the vineyards that would one day become responsible for the very first sip of sangria.
The local citizens, in their quest for refreshment, and alcoholic enjoyment, created fruit punches from the red wines they were now enjoying. They called these drinks sangria. For they were the color of blood, and packed a punch because they were often fortified with a ‘punch’ of brandy.
This also explains why red wine is the most commonly used base for sangria—because those very Romans who planted vineyards thousands of years ago discovered that red grape varietals produced the best wine. Thus red grapes were planted, red wine was made, and red wine sangria was born.
Fast forward thousands of years and history was made in the United States when the sangria was brought to the 1964 world’s fair in New York City.”
Lush Sangria has been hugely popular and our first mix flavored with fruit. We’re also very excited about the new flavors we have coming out in August. We don’t want to give it away just yet, but there are three new flavors on the horizon. If you haven’t tried Lush Sangria yet, we think you should! You can get 25% off of Lush mixes right now using code: summer. Give it a try, and be on the look out for new Lush in August!

Maybe, just maybe, you had one too many margaritas yesterday for tequila day. It’s time to work off those calories. And, we’re here to help:
Thanks for reading Such A Lush Blog. Stay tuned and you’ll be served fun commentary on wine, cocktails, entertaining, and small business. It’s a fun mix, we’re some fun gals, and you’ve found your place if you’re Such a Lush like us. And, for reading the

I am pretty picky when it comes to margaritas. It’s got to have good tequila. It’s also got to have enough tequila. I always choose to use 100% agave tequila in my margaritas. Tequila comes from the nectar of the blue agave plant. Each blue agave plant has to grow for 8-10 years before it can be harvested for tequila making. When you buy a tequila that is 100% agave, you are truly buying good tequila. All of the tequila in this bottle comes directly from the blue agave plant making your tequila completely pure. Some tequilas are mixed with other alcohol distillates that come from sugar cane in addition to the blue agave nectar. This produces a lesser quality product and can also lead to nasty hangovers after drinking due to the high sugar cane volume. So do yourself a favor and spend the little bit of extra money to get 100% agave tequila.
The 2nd key ingredient to this margarita is fresh lime juice. Fresh lime juice is soooo much better than sweet and sour mix or a pre-mixed margarita mix. Fresh lime juice is tart yet refreshing. It also doesn’t have all the nasty chemicals, filler ingredients, and the high processed sugar content that most pre-mixed margarita mixes have. Fresh lime juice is essential to making this oh-so-yummy fresh margarita.
Finally, triple sec. Triple sec is a liqueur that falls into the Curaçao family. Triple sec has an orange flavor since it is made from the dried peels of bitter and sweet orange. The addition of triple sec in this simple margarita helps round out the flavors and ease up a little bit of the bite that comes through from the tequila.
I’ve tried tons of homemade margarita recipes. Some complicated, some less complicated, but I always end up coming back to this seriously simple, fresh, and delicious recipe. Cheers!
Fresh Simple Margarita
- 1/3 cup 100% agave tequila (silver or reposado)
- 1/3 cup triple sec
- 1/3 cup fresh lime juice (squeezed or bottled… just be sure it’s 100% lime juice if you use bottled)
- 2 tsp agave (optional if you prefer a sweeter margarita)
Mix all 3 ingredients together in a cocktail shaker. Pour into a short cocktail glass filled with ice. Garnish with salt and a lime wedge. Enjoy!
The Lapu Lapu cocktail is tropical and oh-so-yummy. I first discovered this cocktail on my honeymoon at Walt Disney World. We stayed at the Polynesian Resort and quickly became familiar with the Tiki Bar in the Great Ceremonial House. When we got home, I knew I couldn’t wait until our next trip to have another! The below recipe matches almost perfectly to the cocktail we enjoyed in Florida. This cocktail is served up in a fresh hollowed-out pineapple; although if you’re making it at home and don’t have the time or the patience to hollow out a fresh pineapple, it’s just as yummy mixed up in a cocktail shaker and served in a glass.
The Lapu Lapu gets it’s name from the legend of Chief Lapu Lapu who was a Filipino chief that defeated Magellan back in 1521. Not exactly sure how that correlates with a delicious rum and pineapple cocktail, but the name is fun and the drink will take you away to a Polynesian paradise (even if only until you’re done sipping on it). Cheers!
Lapu Lapu
- 2 parts Meyers Dark Rum
- 2 parts pineapple juice
- 3 parts orange juice
- 1 part sweet and sour mix
- topped with 1 part Bacardi 151 rum floated on top
Shake the first 4 ingredients together over ice. Pour into a hollowed-out pineapple, or a tall glass. Float 1 part Bacardi 151 rum on top and Enjoy!

Wine is a wonderfully delightful drink. However, it can also strike fear and panic in some. It can be an intimidating for those who are new to it. When I think of wine, I think of relaxation…not stress.
Wine is essentially the opposite of stress.
So, if the technicalities of types and regions and pairings and temperatures and legs (and on and on) have you stressed, here’s a great article from our friends at Real Simple to take the confusion out of it. Sit back, sip, and relax. Soon, enough, you’ll be a know-it-all-wine-Connoisseur. An easy-going and non-intimidating one, of course:

Got plans for the weekend? I bet they involve fireworks. Since we can see a wonderful display from our home, I’ll be sipping wine on my balcony and taking in the sights.
For those more adventurous (read: without 4 kids 7 years old and younger), there’s plenty to do and see around the country. Here’s a good place to start: Best Firework Displays across the country, and what to do in the Denver area.
If you haven’t noticed, I love “Best of” lists. For one, I’m always interested to see if my city, and places I’ve been, make the cut. And, second, I love planning future trips to see some of the best our country has to offer.
My personal best of? While living in Washington DC, we were fortunate enough to spend the 4th of July at the National Mall…you just can’t beat that. And, here in the Denver area, I love the fireworks following a Rockies game.
You? What have been your favorite fireworks experiences?

We’re almost into July, which means summer is in full swing. Nothing says summer quite like a delicious summer shandy. Today we’re featuring a recipe from Food and Wine with a few slight adjustments of our own. This Ginger Shandy is a tasty and unique twist on the traditional summer shandy. Mix up a batch and enjoy the extra daylight and the delightful weather with family and friends.
Ginger Shandies– yields 6 drinks.
One 12-ounce bottle chilled ginger beer
Three 11.2 ounce bottles of chilled Hoegaarden beer
2 sliced lemons
Mint springs, for garnish
In a large pitcher, combine the Hoegaarden with the ginger beer. Stir in all but 6 of the lemon slices. For extra lemon flavor, squeeze each lemon slice into the pitcher and then drop in the squeezed wedge. Add a handful of mint springs. Fill 6 glasses with ice. Add the remaining 6 lemon slices to the glasses and pour in the shandy. Garnish each drink with a mint sprig and Enjoy!
Everyone knows summer is the best time of the year to kick back, slow down, and really enjoy life. With more sunlight hours during the day, summer feels like you have more time to enjoy the simple things and to have some fun. We’ve come up with a list of a few fun and easy summer ideas to try out this summer. We hope they help you get through the dog days of summer! Enjoy!
Looking for delicious, easy, and healthy treat for this summer? Chop up a handful of different fruits. We like kiwis, strawberries, peaches, and blueberries. Then, with your own popsicle molds fill the molds a little more than 3/4’s of the way with fruit. Next, take coconut water and pour it into the mold filling it up all the way. Pop those bad boys in the freezer for a few hours and you’ve got a healthy and very yummy treat for those hot summer days!
Love enjoying the summer breeze and a nice book outside, but need some sun coverage? Create your very own backyard reading nook. Take rope, a piece of wood, a slackline, whatever you have laying around that can hold up the weight of a sheet, and place it between two solid objects in your yard. A fence and a tree, the deck and a tree, two trees… you get the idea. Next, take an old sheet or blanket and drape it over the rope. Grab a few rocks or other heavy objects to place on the bottom 4 corners of the sheet to hold it out and in place. Grab your favorite pillow and your favorite book and enjoy your new summer reading spot! We love this picture of a simple backyard tent from The Reed Life.
If you’re hosting a party that will be going into the night, we love the idea of putting a few glowsticks in the bottom of your drink bucket. Not only does this give a fun and festive glow to your party, but it also serves the functional purpose of lighting up the drink labels so your guests know which drink they are grabbing for.
Having a Summer BBQ? How about creating a DIY hot dog or hamburger bar? Taste of Home has a delicious list of crazy toppings that you can find here. My favorite toppings for a DIY hot dog bar is sautéed mushrooms and onions with salt and pepper and a helping of cream cheese. Delicious!
Everyone knows summer is the best time to cook on the grill and enjoy a delicious dinner out on the patio. Check out this delicious and easy Grilled Beer Can Chicken. I can personally say that I’ve tried this recipe and it’s one of the best you’ll find! Scrumptious!
Big party ideas but only a little budget? Don’t despair…think of it as an opportunity to be extra clever and creative. Yesterday we talked about an inexpensive wine option, 2-Buck Chuck. Today, we’ve got more tips for inexpensive entertaining. This article, from www.moneycrashers.com, covers everything from decor to food and drinks to music. And, if you follow the advice in #4 to use a signature drink, may we suggest Lush? Of course we can. It’s an absolutely unforgettable hit of a drink at any party…and since it produces 55 ounces frozen cocktail per bag, it goes a long way. The only issue is that your guest may not want to stop! And, we’d love to add to this list…what are your favorite budget-friendly party tips?

This year, Denver officially welcomed Trader Joe’s! And of course, 2-Buck Chuck wine ($3 buck, if you want to get technical). Have you tried any 2-Buck Chuck varieties? What was your verdict? We loved this article from www.thrillist.com – it’s a great review of each variety of 2-Buck Chuck from a Sommelier and his girlfriend. It’s a fun read whether you agree with them or not, and you might just be surprised at the results:

It’s Friday!!
Whatever or Whoever is giving you a reason to drink this Friday, just Enjoy! Cheers!
This article over at Huffington Post is full of delicious Caipirinha Cocktail recipes that you should be enjoying for the World Cup 2014. Caipirinha’s are a delicious cocktail unique to Brazil. They are made with Cachaça, a Brazillian distilled liquor, sugar and lime. This recipe is one of our favorites from the collection. The fresh ginger makes this the perfect cocktail to sip while catching the World Cup 2014 games and it also makes it the perfect Summer 2014 cocktail as well. Enjoy!
Ginger Caipirinhas- 12 servings
24 1/4-inch-thick slices peeled fresh ginger
3/4 to 1 1/2 cups sugar
12 limes, quartered, plus thin wedges for serving
1 bottle (750 ml) cachaca
Place 2 ginger slices and 1 to 2 tablespoons sugar in each of 12 tumblers. Use a muddler to mash ginger. Add a quartered lime to each; crush with muddler. Fill glasses with coarsely crushed ice, add a scant 1/4 cup cachaca to each, and stir well. Squeeze lime wedges into glasses and serve.
Recipe from Martha Stewart
The World Cup only comes around once every 4 years. So that means that you’ve really got to do it up right when the time comes! Today we’re talking about hosting a World Cup 2014 party. Since the World Cup is in Brazil this year, you’ll notice some fun and delicious Brazilian influences.
Anyone who has been to Brazil knows that there is nothing yummier than Pao de Queijo or Brazilian Cheese Rolls. We love this recipe from Our Best Bites. The recipe is simple, delicious, and gluten free! These tasty treats make a perfect appetizer or a great snack to munch on throughout the game.
No party is complete without decorations. This party from Kara’s Party Ideas was originally for a 7 year old boy’s birthday party. However, we absolutely love the all of the theming. Particularly the flags from all of the countries participating in the World Cup really takes these party decorations from a run of the mill soccer party to a World Cup 2014 party!
If you’re planning on serving dishes that are on the heartier side, this Brazilian Skirt Steak with Golden Garlic Butter from Fine Cooking is absolutely scrumptious. Since you’re all not likely to be sitting around the dinner table while you’re watching the game, once the steak has cooked, we recommend cutting the steak into bite sized pieces and serving it up with toothpicks like an appetizer.
Finally, no party would be complete without something sweet. For dessert we love these Brazilian Chocolate Fudge Balls from To Food with Love. Simple to make, delicious to eat, and perfect for the 2014 World Cup since they are Brazilian.
Whatever you decide to do for World Cup 2014, we hope that you enjoy this special event that only comes around once every 4 years! And, one final note…. U.S.A! U.S.A! U.S.A!
We’ve officially got World Cup Fever here at Lush Headquarters. Only prescription? How about the Official Brazil World Cup wine?

With Father’s Day coming up this Sunday, we thought it would be the perfect opportunity to talk scotch.
We love the flowchart above which was originally posted by the Wall Street Journal to help you choose the best Scotch for your Dad this Father’s Day.
Once you’ve found the perfect Scotch for dear ole’ Dad, use the recipe below to make Dad the perfect Father’s Day cocktail.
The Flying Scotsman– even though my Dad is not a Scotch drinker, he is Scottish, so given our Scottish heritage, this one is in honor of my Dad. Happy Father’s Day!
1 shot (1.5 oz) Scotch Whisky
1 shot (1.5 oz) Vermouth
1 dash bitters
1/4 tsp simple syrup
Shake all ingredients together over ice in a cocktail mixer. Strain into a short cocktail glass. Enjoy!
So, you’re planning a fabulous BBQ Party, complete with Lush Wine Slushies (to make it the best party ever), and something tells you that you should peek inside your grill. You open it up a few days before. You. Are. Horrified. Is it even safe to serve food off a mess like that?
If you have a grill that looks like mine, you would do well to check out this 15-minute-grill-cleaning-guide from Real Simple. And, don’t miss my bonus tip for especially grimy grates below!

Love Wine? Love finding useful and fun apps for your phone? This article outlines a handful of great wine apps to help get you through this Monday.
http://www.get-app-and-go.com/wine-information.html
Our favorite? Natalie MacLean: Wine Picks & Pairings.
What’s not to love about this app? There’s a Recipes section with delicious recipes from all over the world. Once you’ve selected your delicious new recipe, use the Pairings section to choose the best wine to pair with your meal. Finally, we love the Reviews section. There are literally hundreds of different wines in this section with in depth reviews on each one. This wine app will help you pick the right wine for the right occasion.
A close second? Hello Vino
This is also a great app for food and wine pairings. We particularly like the Wine by Taste Preference option in this app.
We hope you find an app or two in this article that will help you broaden your knowledge and love for wine! Enjoy!
